Where to live in Edmonton
Edmonton is split up into the following sections:
Downtown Edmonton - bordered by 109 Street (west), 104 Avenue (north), 97 Street (east), 97 Avenue, 100 Avenue, and Rossdale Road (south) and Jasper Avenue (southeast). Areas adjacent to downtown, also considered part of the downtown neighbourhood, includes North Saskatchewan River (south and south east), 82 Street (east), 112 Avenue (north), and 124 Street (west). Inner Edmonton, also considered part of the downtown neighbourhood, is bordered by 111 Avenue (north), Yellowhead Trail (south), LRT right of way (west) and 121 Street (east). The Edmonton City Centre Airport is located within this section.
West Edmonton - bordered by 124 Street (east), the city limits (west), 111 Avenue (north), and the North Saskatchewan River (south) including the Jasper North neighbourhood. This section is home to the West Edmonton Mall.
Southwest Edmonton - south of the North Saskatchewan River and west of Gateway Boulevard. Major neighbourhoods in this area are Heritage Valley, Kaskitayo/Petrolia, Old Strathcona, Riverbend, Southgate, Terwillegar, Twin Brooks and Windemere. The University of Alberta, Old Strathcona Farmers' Market, 'Whyte Ave' and Ft Edmonton Park are located in this section as well as the annual Fringe Theatre and Heritage Festivals.
Southeast Edmonton - south of Whyte Avenue and east of Gateway Boulevard. It also includes those neighbourhoods located north of Whyte Avenue, south of the North Saskatchewan River and east of 85 Street. Major neighbourhoods in this area are Mill Woods, Burnewood, Knottwood, Lakewood, Millhurst, Millbourne, Ridgewood, Southwood, Woodvale and the Meadows (in development).
Northwest Edmonton - north of the Yellowhead Trail and west of 97 Street, as well as those neighbourhoods north of 111 Avenue and west of 121 Street. Neighbourhoods are Castle Downs and the Palisades.
Northeast Edmonton - north of the Yellowhead Trail and east of 97 Street, as well as those neighbourhoods located south of the Yellowhead Trail, north of the North Saskatchewan River, and east of the LRT right of way. Major neighbourhoods are Beverly, Clareview and Hermitage.
